My French colleague, Julie Pellegry and myself are setting ourselves a little challenge for 2013-2014. We want to get our 1STI2D students writing. Both inspired by the film Freedom Writers and the diaries that the teacher asked of her pupils, we plan to ask each students to have a Writing exercise book and to do regular writing in it, in both English and French.

My first assignment in English will be something along the lines of “An important moment during my holidays”.

We also feel very strongly about asking the students to do not only literary language work in French but also “proper French” that will prepare them for the real world – working on writing reports, letters, emails etc.
