Taking a gap year

Maybe your plans have changed ? Maybe your CAPES results weren’t as you hoped ? Maybe you just don’t feel ready to continue on the path you have chosen just as yet ? If so, have you thought about a gap year, working in a school in an English-speaking environment ? We have contacts in various places within Europe. Obviously the CIEP is your starting point if you want to be an assistant on the language assistants’ programme, BUT some schools look to recruit directly and to find assistants without going through the official programme. Here is some information for you to consider :

We sent an assistante to Rydal this year. For information, contact the teacher in charge : Charline Vallée. Her email is CVallee@rydalpenrhos.com

It is a boarding school and provides board and lodging in exchange for hours as a language assistant.

A year as a language assistant allows a student to apply for an “année de césure”. The procedure allows you to remain under “student status” for the year and to reserve you a place to resume your studies on your return.
